What is a Sobeys Healthy Athlete Clinic?
Sobeys Healthy Athlete Clinic’s, facilitated by Jays Care staff, teach athletes about how to live long and healthy lives. These clinics are educational and play-based and work on developing life skills, such as independence, that they can transition into their everyday lives. Students will actively participate in activities that have been adapted to focus on healthy eating.

What are the goals of each clinic?
Each Sobeys Healthy Athlete Clinic has specific learning goals and are designed to focus on the following four overarching goals:
Connection: Working with peers to enhance knowledge of healthy eating.
Independence: Having the power to choose what food to eat to become a healthy student-athlete.
Love of Self: Learning all of the ways nutrition can fuel a strong, healthy body.
Courage: Developing the courage to try new, healthy foods.

How long are the clinics?
A clinic can run between 30 minutes to 1.5 hrs (based on the educator’s discretion). The goal of the clinic is to have athlete leave feeling like they learned something new about healthy eating that will in turn, help them become a healthier athlete.

Below are the 5 clinics that we offer for the Sobeys Healthy Athlete Clinic:

  2. Food Groupies – introducing/reviewing groups of healthy foods.
  3. Sugar Sugar – Introducing the effects of sugar on ones body.
