WHO CAN BE A CHALLENGER BASEBALL COACH?
Coaches are volunteers who are responsible for the implementation of the Challenger Baseball program in their community. Coaches are responsible for supporting athletes and buddies to ensure that they are working towards their unique and individual goals and promoting independence. Coaches are a crucial part of any Challenger Baseball program. Some of the roles of a coach may include:
- Planning and leading fun and consistent Challenger Baseball programming;
- Being a liaison between athletes, buddies, parents and the Challenger Baseball Provincial Coordinator;
- Creating a safe, inclusive environment (physically and emotionally);
- Adapting programming to maximize participation and help everyone learn;
- Assisting with motivation and fundamental movement techniques;
- Celebrating players by filling emotional tanks and encouraging and/or assisting them to set personal goals;
- Being a positive role model for athletes and buddies;
- Assisting players in learning big life skills alongside learning the fundamentals of baseball;
- Supporting buddies to help them feel comfortable, confident and excited working one-to-one with athlete; and
- Assessing the impact of program and modifying when necessary.
Anyone who is willing to make a significant impact and commitment to Challenger Baseball by agreeing to show up regularly (practices once a week for a minimum of 8 weeks), and who feels capable of being a supportive leader, program implementer, friend and ally to Challenger Baseball athletes and buddies, is welcome to sign up to become a Challenger Baseball coach.
